Unlike most public and academic libraries, the VDOT Research Library never charges its patrons (VDOT personnel) overdue fines or replacement fees.

We realize that occasionally library materials are lost or damaged through the normal course of shipping and use.

When this happens, the lost item is typically marked missing/lost in the library catalog while we search for it. If found it is checked back in and reshelved unless it is damaged.  Damaged items are typically repaired, replaced if/as needed, or removed from the catalog if no longer valued for the collection.

While VDOT patrons are never charged fees, we reserve the right to charge borrowing libraries for any replacement or repair fees resulting for items lost or damaged through the course of Interlibrary Loans (ILL).

NOTE: If a borrowed item is damaged when we ship it to your library, please inform us immediately upon receipt of the item instead of at the end of the ILL transaction.
