While our library catalog is publicly accessible and reveals our holdings and collections, the VDOT Research Library itself is not a "public library" in the traditional sense, and we do not typically loan items directly to non-VDOT employees.

Holdings in our print collections and subscription databases may be access by non-affiliated (non-VDOT personnel) in-house by appointment only.

If you are not affiliated with VDOT/VTRC (Examples: VA residents, members of the UVA community, researchers, etc.) and want to use something in our collections the best way is for your sponsoring library to request the items you need through Interlibrary Loan. We prefer to receive such requests through OCLC's WorldShare Interlibrary Loan system.

Our OCLC lending symbol is:TDG

Please check holding/lending notes for items in our library catalog to be sure the items you are interested do not have lending restrictions, and that they are not checked out or missing.

NOTE: Some items in the library have access or circulation restrictions based on patron class, including: reference sources, P.E. study collections and other rare or specialized resources. Please contact us with your questions.
