VDOT's ScienceDirect subscription now allows employees "self-service" access to individual eBook chapters.
Sometimes you only need a chapter or two...or some "part" of the book. When that is the case feel free to download what you need from ScienceDirect. But bear in mind that each chapter counts as a download (for which the library is charged a fee). In the case of a 19 chapter book the total fees could add up quickly!
With that in mind, if you need access to an entire book in ScienceDirect (especially if it has a lot of chapters), please contact the library first so we can check into access and pricing options. You can also check our library catalog to see if we have the title on our shelves or full-text access through another database like Knovel, ASTM Compass or EBSCO eBooks!
If chapter-by-chapter downloads in ScienceDirect wind up costing several times as much as a copy of the book (and if you have time) we might even decide to buy a print copy of it for your use.
