While all the library's collections and services are designed to support research efforts (and researchers and practitioners undertaking those efforts), library staffers do not have the subject expertise to conduct original transportation research.

That much said, most research projects start with identifying and locating previous research on a topic...something the library excels at through our Literature Search Service, which is available to all employees.

Who does perform original research? The library is located at the Virginia Transportation Research Council (VTRC), which is the research arm of VDOT, where research teams study the following:

In some instances, VDOT divisions contract with with universities or transporation consultants to conduct research or studies as well.

VDOT managers or policymakers who have a research need might consider exploring VTRC's published research reports and Research Advisory Committees to see if their topic has recently been researched or considered for research.
