Yes, anyone with an Internet-connected device can get to VDOT OneSearch (because it is publicly accessible) and anyone can perform a search across any variation of the 25 subscription and publicly accessible sources listed.

However, any results returned in the results of that search that are from VDOT subscription sources will only be accessible to VDOT employees.

VDOT employees searching OneSearch from devices that are on the VDOT network should always go directly to the full text of any subscription source listed with one click.

However, VDOT employees working from devices NOT on the VDOT network (a home computer for example) will be prompted to enter their Virtual Library Card credentials when they click on a subscription source.  They will see a screen that looks like this:

Screen capture showing the Virtual Library Card in OneSearch.

1. VDOT employees can add their VDOT e-mail address and Library card password and click "Login" and they'll go directly to the full text of any subscription.

2. Work at VDOT but forgot your library card password? Click "Reset Password" to fix that.

3. Work at VDOT but don't have a Virtual Library Card?  Click "Request a Card" to fix that.

Anyone who is not a VDOT employee or consultant (and thus will not ever be on the VDOT network) who searches VDOT subscription sources via OneSearch will not be authorized to access those sources.

However, OneSearch will work for those outside of VDOT if they limit their searches to the following publicly accessible sources:

  • National Technical Reports Library (NTRL)
  • Research in Progress (RiP)
  • Transportation Research and Information Database (TRID)
  • VDOT Research Library Catalog
  • VTRC Research Reports
  • VDOT Bulletin
  • VDOT Flickr Photostream
  • VDOT New Release Archive
  • VDOT Youtube Channel
